FAQs

If you have any questions that we have not answered here, please get in touch.

Ask a question

  • Yes. To maintain our professional standing with the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and our national park permits, all guests are required to sign a Release of Liability Waiver.

This is a standard practice for all guided mountain adventures in Canada. You will be asked to acknowledge the waiver during the booking process, and you must sign a physical copy in person before we head into the field. You can review the [Release of Liability / Waiver of Claims] here at any time. If you have questions about the document or the nature of the risks involved in mountain travel, we are always happy to discuss them before you book.

  • Every Columbia Wild Guides experience is led by Jacob Downie, a professional ACMG-certified Hiking Guide and Wilderness First Responder. Unlike uncertified tour operators, we maintain the highest professional standards in Canada, operating under a professional Emergency Response Plan (ERP) vetted annually for our National Parks licenses.

  • You are in the right place. Columbia Wild Guides specializes in luxury guided hiking tours in the Canadian Rockies, ranging from single-day private outings to our signature 8-day luxury excursion. We blend world-class guiding with refined touches like trailside espresso and high-end logistics to ensure your mountain experience is as comfortable as it is adventurous.

  • Absolutely. We specialize in luxury travelers and families who value privacy and a bespoke pace. Because our tours are private, we can adjust the day for everyone—whether that means slowing down for young children or focusing on photography and alpine ecology.

  • The best experiences are found by utilizing deep local knowledge and strategic timing. As a local boutique operator, we specialize in hiking experiences that avoid the crowds by choosing "hidden gem" routes and timing our visits to iconic landmarks when the tour buses have departed, ensuring you feel the true scale of the wilderness.

  • Safety is proactive. We carry a professional communication suite including a Garmin InReach Mini (satellite SOS) and a VHF Radio programmed with Parks Canada Dispatch frequencies. We also carry a comprehensive WFR-level medical kit, bear spray, and emergency shelters on every outing.

  • Most tours last 4–8 hours. You’ll need a comfortable daypack, sturdy footwear, and weather-appropriate layers (a detailed list is provided upon booking). We provide all group safety gear, trekking poles, and interpretive expertise.
